Virat Kohli. Just a day after becoming the first captain to register a hat-trick of centuries in a three-match series, the Indian skipper scaled yet another milestone when he scored his sixth double century, the highest as a captain. He overtook West Indies great Brian Lara, who held the record previously with five double tons in Tests.

Virat Kohli’s 243 was eclipsed by Delhi pollution as India declared on 536/7 against Sri Lanka on the second day of the third Test at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla. At stumps, Sri Lanka reached 131/3, still trailing India by 405 runs.Virat Kohli Score His Sixth Double Century. However, it was pollution that remaimed the talking point of the second day. At one point, Sri Lanka were left with no substitute fielders as Kohli quite angrily declared. Earlier, Kohli surpassed Brian Lara in scoring most double tons (6) by a captain. He also surpassed the likes of Don Bradman in scoring three double centuries in two successive calendar years. India need a draw to equal West Indies and Australia’s world record of nine consecutive Test series wins. After Murali Vijay and Kohli plundered the Sri Lanka bowlers on Day 1 to take India to 371/4, the Indian batsmen’s success story did not change on the second day too. However, Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews frustrated Indians with a 50-plus stand.

Kohli resumed Day 2 of the third India-Sri Lanka Test on 156, and quickly reached his second double ton of the series. On Saturday, Kohli went past the 5000-run mark in Tests during the second session of day one of the third and the final Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Preview India Vs Srilanka

: Indian batting continued to make merry against the hapless Sri Lankan attack as tons from Murali Vijay (155) and skipper Virat Kohli (156*) helped India reach 371/4 at the end of Day 1 of the third Test against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Friday. It could have been a whole lot worse for Sri Lanka, but two late wickets for Lakshan Sandakan helped the visitors pull back the hosts towards the fag end of the day. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Shikhar Dhawan - who came back into the team in place of Kl Rahul - and Murali Vijay started the proceedings for the hosts, playing out the difficult first hour on a cold morning. Just when the two looked set, Dhawan departed for 23 off 35 balls after Lakmal completed a bizarre catch, where he was left with just one shoe on. This was also Dilruwan Perera's 100th Test wicket. Cheteshwar Pujara joined Vijay and for a change, Sri Lanka managed to break this partnership early, as Samarawickrama completed a sharp catch at leg-slip. The visitors certainly delighted as their planning paid early dividends. Early wickets didn't stop India from scoring quick runs as the visitors failed to pile on any pressure on the hosts despite getting wickets. Local boy Virat Kohli joined Murali Vijay in the middle and the two picked up from where they left in Nagpur, piling on the runs for India and that to at a quick run rate. The 10,000 odd crowd that was at the Kotla got to see some entertaining cricket, with Kohli and Vijay matching each other shot for shot. The pair reached their 50 partnership off just 59 balls and the captain completed his half-century off just 52 balls. Kohli shifted gears and soon started scoring faster than Vijay, reaching his ton off 110 balls while Vijay too reached the landmark in 163 deliveries. With no Herath, Sri Lankan bowling lacked any bite and his replacement Sandakan conceded runs at more than 5 runs per over.
